Supplies from the Heart - Help Hospeace House by filling the bus!
Naples Elementary School continues to support our local community who does so much for us! This month we are going to try to ‘fill the bus’ with donations for Hospeace House. Donations can be dropped off at the bus parked in front of the elementary school from Friday, February 11th - Friday, February 18th.
In order to collect as many items as possible on their wish list, the following are suggested donations for each grade level and staff.
UPK- Non-perishable food or hand sanitizer
Kindergarten- Regular coffee/tea or personal hygiene wipes
1st Grade- Sugar (white and brown) or facial tissue
2nd Grade- Paper napkins or garbage bags (4 gallon & 13 gallon)
3rd Grade- Freezer bags (gallon & quart) or Lysol wipes (or similar)

Covid Protocols Update
** Please note this info is subject to change. Please look out for additional communication from the Superintendent. **
The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has indicated they will no longer be contact tracing potential COVID exposures for individuals. In consideration of this and based on Ontario County Public Health (OCPH) feedback, students who have been quarantined, due to an exposure on the bus or during breakfast or lunch, have very rarely contracted COVID from that exposure. Rather than conducting individual contact tracing, public health will work with schools to continue to do cluster contact tracing when there appears to be multiple cases within a setting or cohort (team, classroom, lunch table, etc.). COVID Updates
Being Prepared
As the number of positive cases increases we are reminded to revisit all learning options so that we can keep student learning going under all circumstances. Often students required to isolate or quarantine feel fine and have slight or no symptoms. There is no plan to move to a remote or hybrid learning environment at this time. However, if circumstances require it, we want our students to be prepared to learn.
Therefore, we will be sending all students home with their portable learning tool and some basic instructions on Wednesday just in case some of our students have to learn remotely ...

Capital Project Vote Result
Dear NCS Community,
The Result of the Capital Project Vote held on December 7 is 173 YES and 40 No for a passing rate of 81.2%.
We sincerely thank the community for supporting this initiative.
The next step is to begin to develop a detailed project proposal that will be submitted to the State Education Department for approval. This step begins immediately in order to be able to meet the goal of actual renovation construction beginning in the spring of 2023.
Your new Superintendent Kevin Swartz and Business Administrator Chad Hunt as well as your Board of Education will keep you apprised of the planning process and there will be future opportunity for more community input on project specifics.

CAPITAL PROJECT PROPOSAL REMINDER
We want to remind our community that our capital project vote will be held on Tuesday December 7 from 7 am to 8 pm in the high school library. The proposal includes:
Updates to the Elementary School
Gymnasium updates including handicap accessible bleachers
Updating approximately 22 of the oldest classrooms
Updating classroom windows
Updating air handling
Improving door security
Providing emergency power to key areas
Updates to the High School
Auditorium updates to increase viewability, stage size, storage, seating capacity, and improve sound and lighting

Elementary Book Fair
Dear Parents and Guardians:
The Scholastic Book Fair is back this year! This event is a great opportunity for students to add books to their home collection and further their love of reading. All purchases benefit our school. The Book Fair runs from December 6th - December 10th and will be held in the Elementary School Media Center .
Here’s what you need to know about the Scholastic Book Fair:
All students will be visiting the book fair during their regular Media Center time.
If your child wants to come later in the week to make a purchase, he/she will need to check with his/her teacher for an appropriate time.

Naples CSD Board of Education selects Kevin Swartz as Superintendent of Schools
The Naples Central School District Board of Education has selected Kevin Swartz as the next Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Swartz will be appointed at the November 17, 2021 Board of Education meeting.
Mr. Swartz joins the Naples Central School District from Victor Central School District, where he currently holds the position of Intermediate School Principal. Previously, Mr. Swartz served as the Middle School Principal for Penfield Central School District and Social Studies Instructor at Palmyra-Macedon Central School District. Throughout his career, Mr. Swartz has led collaborative efforts to support student growth and opportunities, with a strong focus on the community as a partner.

Dear Naples Community,
The Superintendent Search Process is entering into its last phase, the most difficult one, the selection of a superintendent. This past week, the Board of Education and a representative stakeholder committee participated in confidential candidate conversations. The Board of Education now has the responsibility of a selection. We will be making an announcement as soon as the Board of Education completes their deliberation and selection process.

COVID Testing at NCS for Students Who Are Exhibiting Symptoms
COVID-19 Testing for Students who are Exhibiting Symptoms
We are pleased to have received our rapid testing equipment and Mrs. Sara Weigert has been assigned to NCS as a nurse from the Ontario County Health Department. Beginning on Monday October 18, 2021 students who are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will be able to obtain a free 15-minute rapid test right here at NCS.
Sponsored by a grant received by the Ontario County Department of Health at no cost to the parent or the school

NCS Superintendent Search Update - Sept. 27
On Thursday, September 23, 2021, our Superintendent application was posted and opened to all interested applicants. You can view the vacancy announcement at www.wflboces.org/naples .
On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Superintendent Search Survey. The process of collecting information is ongoing as Dr. Ramos will be meeting with members of the school faculty, staff, and administration next week.
Once the application period ends (October 15, 2021), our next steps will include reviewing the applicants and selecting those we wish to interview.
