NCS Community Update 10-31-25

Good afternoon,

I hope this message finds you well and for those of you who will be out trick or treating tonight, I wish you a safe and enjoyable evening.  A few updates as we wrap-up the month of October.

First, I want to congratulate our fall athletes and coaches for the outstanding seasons they have put forth.  Both from a team perspective and an individual perspective, much has been accomplished and there are many reasons to be proud.  Our Boys Soccer Team remains active in sectional play after a strong showing against Geneseo on Wednesday and we wish them all the best in the class C finals tomorrow at 1:00 PM at Honeoye Falls-Lima CSD. Go Big Green!

Secondly, I wanted to share an update regarding our High School Principal Nicole Green and next steps as we look to support our students, staff, and families.  As many of you are aware, Nicole shared several weeks ago that she plans to pursue disability retirement as she continues to courageously navigate cancer and related treatments.  While her presence will be missed incredibly, Nicole is now able to take time to focus upon her well-being, self-care, and her family.

Nicole’s student-centered leadership, professionalism, and enthusiasm has truly been a gift to NCS and she has touched countless numbers of students/families/colleagues in both her role as a principal and previously as an English teacher.  Her passion for building relationships, seeking growth and improvement, and providing rich opportunities for students has been nothing short of remarkable.  Nicole should feel a tremendous sense of pride as she has modeled for all of us what leadership and courage looks like, and she leaves a legacy upon which great work can continue at NCS.  On behalf our district and the entire NCS community, I extend a heartfelt thank-you to Nicole for an exceptional educational career.

Matt Mahoney, who has previously served as our interim JH/HS principal over the past few years, has graciously agreed to step in while the district begins a process of selecting the next principal.  Matt is very familiar with our students and staff and had been serving as an interim Director of Instruction for NCS over past two years—know that the high school remains in good hands.

In the weeks ahead, we will look to begin a comprehensive hiring process, which includes posting the position, resume reviews, screening interviews, committee interviews (including parent representatives), reference checks, and final candidate presentation(s) to staff.  It is our hope to identify a successful candidate by early-mid January at the latest, with an anticipated start date sometime this winter.  Both Nicole and Matt Mahoney will assist to the greatest degree possible to ensure a smooth transition.

As always, do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns and have an enjoyable weekend.
