Community Update 8/12/24
Community Update 8/12/24
Good afternoon,
I hope this letter finds you well and that you and your family have been enjoying all that summer has to offer. In just a few weeks, we look forward to welcoming our students back to NCS as we begin the 2024-25 school year. The first student day of school will be on Tuesday, September 3rd.
It has been an incredibly busy summer here at NCS, particularly in regard to our capital project work. Crews have been working at full capacity which will ensure we are prepared to open our doors on September 3rd. NES classroom renovations are nearing completion in the next two weeks as is the work in the NES gymnasium, which includes new bleachers, resurfacing of the floor, new paint, and other upgrades including safety mats and score boards. At the High School, work in the auditorium continues and we are currently looking at a mid-year completion for that project. The patience shown by our staff, students, and community has been greatly appreciated, and I also want to extend my thanks for the professionalism shown by our maintenance staff and construction managers/contractors throughout this project; as always, they require tremendous creativity, flexibility, and initiative and this one has been no exception. We very much look forward to the reality that our students, staff, and community will be able to enjoy all of these renovated spaces this upcoming school year.
As students settle in to classroom and instructional routines, I also want to remind families of the many extra-curricular activities that are offered in both the arts and athletics. I encourage you to have conversations with your child about interests and potential opportunities they may want to take advantage of. Various activities and club opportunities will be communicated at the building level throughout the year, and of course numerous athletic opportunities exist for NCS students. Should your child (grades 7-12) be interested in participating in a fall sport, the link below can be used for registration.

For your planning purposes, NCS Homecoming festivities are scheduled for week of September 9th, with our athletic contests taking place on Saturday, September 14th at the Town Hall Park.
Lastly, one important reminder regarding the school calendar. Friday, October 11th will be a full day conference day for NCS staff and as such students will not have school that day. Initially, this was scheduled as a half day for students however we made the decision to make this a full day which affords our staff one full day in the fall and one full day in the spring to engage in professional development and district priority work.
Keep an eye out for forthcoming communications from your child’s building principal regarding back-to-school information in the days ahead. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. I hope you enjoy the remaining days of summer and look forward to reconnecting with staff and students soon.
Sincerely,
Kevin Swartz
NCS Superintendent
