Community Update - June 2, 2023

NCS Community:
I hope this message finds you well.  It is hard to believe that we have now reached June.  The remaining weeks of school will move quickly as our students will be enjoying a multitude of end of year events while also preparing for final exams and Regents assessments.  I appreciate the assistance you provide in helping your child finish the school year strong.  Additionally, I want to again extend my thanks for the support the NCS community provided in regard to our recent school budget vote.  It is this support that allows our staff to do outstanding work with students each and every day, and it also demonstrates the commitment our community has to maintaining an excellent school district.  A few updates of importance:

Capital Project
I am pleased to shared that all aspects of our project have been approved by NYS.  Asbestos abatement will begin immediately after the conclusion of our school year at NES and continue into August.  Additionally, we will soon be going out to bid for the significant work scheduled in our HS Auditorium and NES classrooms; we are hopeful that work in the Auditorium will commence later in the summer as well.  As of today, we remain on our timeline for the project.  I appreciate the efforts and sacrifices our staff and students have and will continue to make as we prepare for this intensive work over the next year.  While it will present some challenges, it will lead to outstanding facilities that will serve our students, staff, and community well for decades to come.

End of the year events
6/5: Academic Achievement Awards 6:00 PM HS Cafeteria

6/15: Senior Banquet 6:00 PM HS Cafeteria

6/24: NCS Graduation 11:00 AM HS Front Lawn

Lastly, I want to extend congratulations to all of our spring sports teams and our Marching Band for the successful seasons they have had.  Participation numbers were strong across all activities.  Our tennis team repeated again as class B4 sectional champions, and our baseball team advanced to the semifinals of the sectional tournament.  Of further note, our Marching Band earned a perfect score in their most recent competition—our musicians and advisors should feel incredibly proud.

I hope you continue to enjoy the warm & dry weather and I look forward to seeing you in the weeks ahead.

Sincerely,

Kevin Swartz
NCS Superintendent
