Spring Break Update
Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:
Originally, NCS had scheduled Spring Break for the week of April 6-10. However, because of the school closure, Governor Cuomo issued an executive order clarifying that schools needed to keep providing learning opportunities every weekday through April 14. Because of this, our faculty members will continue engaging students in remote learning during this week and next.
I will make sure to pass along important updates as they become available, and would ask that you take a minute to share the Spring Break information with your son or daughter later on this evening.
Thank you for your partnership and for your support.

NCS Recognized as "Top Workplace"
Dear Naples Family:
I wanted to let you know that yesterday it was announced that NCS had been awarded a "Top Workplace 2020" honor by The Democrat and Chronicle . The distinction was based on feedback offered by our faculty and staff back in the fall, and the questions focused on different aspects of workplace culture.
At times like these, I am reminded of an article written by Jennifer Gonzalez detailing the "Marigold Effect." Gonzalez talks about companion planting, and explains that experienced gardeners often place "certain vegetables and plants near each other to improve growth for one or both plants." She goes on to say that marigolds have a special ability to help encourage, nurture, and protect surrounding plants, and that they help ...

March 30 Update from NCS
March 30, 2020
Dear Naples Family:
On Friday, I let you know that Governor Cuomo had extended the school closure through at least April 14. While the order helps with planning, it also presents a new set of challenges when transitioning from what we hoped might be a brief pause in the academic year to a longer shutdown. As we begin our third week away from students, I wanted to take a minute to pass along a few updates that might be helpful in the days ahead.
Communication:
In addition to phone calls, emails, and social media posts, we have begun using Facebook Live as a way of connecting with our school community. If you are free tomorrow afternoon, I would invite you to visit our Facebook page at 3:00 p.m. for a conversation with NCS staff members focused on ...

Dear Naples Family:
As the week comes to a close, I wanted to provide a brief update on the school closure. Earlier today, Governor Cuomo announced that New York State would be keeping all schools closed through at least April 14 to prevent the spread of COVID-19. I will pass along a more detailed communication early next week, but wanted to share the most recent information.
Stay healthy, and do not hesitate to call or email if there is anything we can do to help.

If you are interested in connecting virtually, we would encourage you to tune into the Naples CSD Facebook page to talk about the latest developments related to COVID-19.
Breakfast and Lunch Delivery:
At this point, we are providing breakfast and lunch packages for approximately 140 students. However, beginning on Wednesday (March 25), we will be transitioning to a Monday-Wednesday-Friday meal delivery schedule to reduce contact between our Food Service Department and homes in our district. We will ...

NCS Announces Extended Closure
March 15, 2020
Dear Naples Family:
Although there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario County, we have been advised that temporarily closing schools would be the best course of action to help keep our community safe and healthy during this challenging time.
After speaking with all Ontario County School Superintendents as well as with key public officials earlier today, the Naples Central School District will be holding a Staff Conference Day (closed for students) on Monday, March 16, to prepare student learning materials for an extended school closure. On Tuesday, March 17, we will have a 1/2 School Day from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. to give students a chance to collect their personal belongings, digital devices (if applicable), and learning materials. ...

Health and Safety Update from NCS
Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:
Like all of you, we have been closely monitoring developments related to COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) over the past couple of weeks. Because the health and safety of our school family is of the utmost importance, I wanted to pass along an update on what we are doing at NCS in response to the respiratory virus.
More than anything, we are encouraging students and staff to exercise the preventative measures (washing hands regularly, using hand sanitizer, covering coughs or sneezes with tissues) outlined by the New York State Department of Health. Additionally, we are encouraging everyone to stay home if they are feeling ill, and to contact their primary care physician if they are displaying symptoms such as a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing. ...

Information on the Coronavirus
Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:
Because the health and safety of students is always our first priority, I wanted to take a minute to pass along information related to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. As you are probably aware, the Coronavirus was first found in Wuhan, China, and it leads to fever, cough, and trouble breathing or shortness of breath.
Because the Coronavirus is very new, health experts are carefully watching how it causes illness, and providing regular guidance to schools on how to best minimize the spread of all respiratory viruses. With this in mind, the New York State Department of Health is recommending that individuals take the following preventative measures:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
Use alcohol-based hand sanitizers ...

Transportation Update from NCS
Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:
I wanted to let you know that at approximately 3:40 p.m. this afternoon, a car rear-ended one of our school buses on Main Street in Naples. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and our Elementary School nurse looked over each one of our students before having them board a different bus to be transported home. Additionally, members of our administrative team called the parents of the students who were on the bus to explain what had happened.
We would like to thank the members of the Naples Fire Department, the Naples Ambulance, and the NYS Troopers for all of their assistance this afternoon. School safety is a collective responsibility, and our community is blessed with caring and skilled first responders.
Please know how much we value your trust and support, ...
