October 16 Update from NCS
Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:
Earlier today, the Steuben County Department of Health (SCDOH) informed me that an athlete on the Dundee/Bradford Boys Varsity Team tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, the SCDOH also notified me that they would be placing the majority of our Boys Varsity players under quarantine from October 16 through October 22 because of a competition that took place on October 8.
I want to emphasize that the reason for the quarantine has to do with a relatively low risk exposure, and not a positive COVID-19 test for any students or staff members at NCS. In addition, because the quarantine will only impact a small number of individuals, the SCDOH has advised us to continue as planned with our normal school schedule and operations ...

October 15 Parent Communication
Dear NCS Parents:
As another fall week comes to a close, I wanted to reach out with important updates on a handful of topics here at NCS. However, if you would like to talk in more detail, please do not hesitate to call or email when you have time (585-374-7901, mfrahm@naplescsd.org ).
Learning Commitments:
When we were putting together our reopening plan over the summer, we asked parents to fill out a “Learning Preference” survey which we used to schedule students as in person, remote, or hybrid learners this fall. In addition, we asked that parents commit to the preference for the first 10 weeks of the school year.
While it is hard to believe, we have already been in session for six weeks, and the 2 nd Quarter will begin on Monday, November 9. With this ...

October 1 Parent Communication
Dear Big Green Parents:
As we turn our calendars from September to October, I wanted to reach out with a handful of updates from NCS. Most importantly, however, I wanted to say thank you for your partnership throughout the reopening process. Although there have been many changes, your patience and support have helped ensure that learning in Naples continues to value safety, a sense of connection, and learning.
October Calendar Change:
The switch from in-person to remote or hybrid instruction has involved a tremendous learning curve for us all. With this in mind, we will be adding a Staff Conference Day on Friday, October 23, so that we can continue to strengthen our online instructional practices. There will be no school for students that day, and we appreciate your flexibility ...

September 11 Parent Communication
Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:
First and foremost, let me say how wonderful it has been to welcome students back to NCS this week. Whether learning has taken place remotely or in classrooms, students have been positive, engaged, and kind, and we are so grateful for all the support we have received from our parent community during the reopening process.
As the week comes to a close, I know that you have received a tremendous number of communications from NCS. I feel a bit guilty for adding another message to your inbox, but wanted to pass along a handful of updates before the weekend arrives.
Athletics:
Last Friday, schools received a detailed guidance document outlining requirements for certain sports to resume on September 21. However, schools in our region have ...

September 4 Parent Communication
Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:
With Labor Day Weekend on the horizon, I wanted to reach out with a handful of important updates as we prepare to welcome students back to school on Wednesday, September 9. However, because guidance related to COVID-19 continues to change on a regular basis, I would ask that you review the following details carefully, and reach out with any questions or concerns (585-374-7901; mfrahm@naplescsd.org ).
Daily Health Screening Tool (Operoo):
Before coming to school each day, students and staff will have to complete a brief health screening. Because districts need to be able to verify that individuals have been screened, we ultimately selected a digital system called “Operoo” because of its email/text capabilities as well as its ...

Important Update on Learning Preferences
Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:
First and foremost, I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to share your learning preferences with us over the past two weeks. Because of your responsiveness, we have been able to identify a plan for instruction this fall. Although we have not yet finalized class rosters or student schedules, I wanted to provide an update before the week comes to a close.
Elementary School Learning Update:
By the end of next week, we will mail letters to parents letting them know who their son or daughter will have as a classroom teacher in the fall. Because the start of the year is quickly approaching, we will also be passing along supply lists so that families can complete back-to-school shopping as soon as possible.

School Reopening Information
Dear NCS Parents:
On Friday, August 7, Governor Cuomo announced that schools would be able to reopen for in-person learning in the fall as long as New York State did not experience a resurgence in COVID-19 cases. Additionally, he also asked that schools post information about COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, and how remote learning would be provided for parents to review. I have tried to capture key parts of our reopening plan below, but would invite you to join us for a Zoom conversation next week to talk in more detail about remote and in-person learning at NCS.
COVID-19 Testing:
Because the District is not a medical facility, NCS will not be testing students or staff members displaying symptoms of COVID-19. However, to ensure the safety of the entire school community, ...

Parent Preference Survey Reminder
Dear NCS Parents:
Last week, I shared a link to our reopening plan and our hopes of providing both a 100% in-person learning option, as well as a 100% remote learning option, for families this fall. However, I also indicated that in order to ensure safe and productive classroom spaces, we would need to know parent preferences as quickly as possible.
Over the past week, more than 60% of parents have responded to the survey. However, it is critical that we have accurate information from 100% of our families by the end of the day tomorrow. If you have not yet had a chance to share your preferences on reopening, I would ask that you fill out a separate form for each of your children by clicking here . If we have not heard from folks by Monday, we will begin reaching out ...

Information on School Reopening
Dear Big Green Families:
Over the past two weeks, students, parents, faculty, and staff have been working hard on creating a school reopening plan for NCS. While the process has been challenging, it has also been an opportunity to see how much individuals care about school safety, connection, and learning in our corner of the world. For anyone who is interested, the complete NCS Reopening Plan can be accessed by clicking on this link . However, I have tried to provide key components of our proposal below, and I would invite you to attend one of our virtual sessions if you have questions or would like additional information.

Parent Input Sought in Reopening
Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:
Earlier today, the State Education Department (SED) presented a framework of guidance for school reopening in the fall. In addition, it also indicated that on Wednesday, July 15, it would be providing even more detail to assist schools in developing and submitting plans by July 31.
To help with planning here in Naples, we will be sending out a detailed parent survey in the days ahead. The questions will be closely aligned with the guidance from SED, and we would encourage you to pass along honest feedback on how to make learning safe and engaging here at NCS.
Along with the survey, we will also be hosting a series of Zoom as well as In Person listening sessions for parents next week. If you are interested in participating, I would ask that you ...

July 9 Update
Dear NCS Family:
As you may be aware, yesterday Governor Cuomo announced that he would be providing school districts with specific guidance related to reopening on July 13, and requiring them to submit specific plans by July 31. Additionally, he indicated that a final decision would be made during the first week in August as to whether schools would be able to open for in person instruction in September.
Like all schools in our region, we have spent time in recent weeks reviewing reopening documents from other states as well as a variety of professional organizations. Although the information has been incomplete, it has helped us begin to brainstorm potential needs for instructional models involving:
Remote Learning
In Person Learning
Hybrid Learning (Mix ...

Thank You from NCS
Dear Big Green Parents and Guardians:
With the long weekend quickly approaching, I wanted to take a minute to say thank you for all of your support over the past few months. From helping to build a remote learning system, to passing the 2020-2021 school budget, to celebrating the Class of 2020, you have gone above and beyond in your care of our NCS family.
As we turn the page from one school year to the next, please know that we are carefully following all available information regarding reopening in the fall. At this point, however, we are waiting for the Governor as well as the State Education Department to release their guidelines before putting together any final plans. Please rest assured that we will be in touch often to communicate details involving September, and that we ...

Senior Earns Seal of Biliteracy Award
The Naples Central School District is proud to announce that Gianna Vest has earned the prestigious Seal of Biliteracy award. The distinction originated in California in 2012 and was adopted by the New York State Department of Education and Board of Regents in 2016. Recognizing the value of diversity and world languages in a globally connected world, the distinction can be earned by students who demonstrate excellence in multiple languages.
Acknowledging the high levels of achievement required in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, Department Chair Analisa Chapman commented that “NCS would like to commend Gianna for all of the hard work, energy, and passion she put into earning the award.” Echoing the sentiment, Principal Green went on to say that the opportunity “would ...
