April 11 Parent Update
Dear NCS Family,
Friday evening, the NYS Department of Health released updated guidance ( click here ) for schools related to in-person instruction. The information is largely based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and it allows schools to relax social distancing guidelines from six to three feet as long as buildings are located in counties with low, moderate, or substantial risks of transmission.
Because close to 95% of our Elementary School students are already back to in-person learning five days per week, the change will not have much of an impact on our youngest learners. At the secondary level, the new social distancing guidelines should give us the ability to increase the number of students we have attending ...

March 19 Parent Update
Dear NCS Families,
As many of you know, earlier today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated guidance indicating that schools would be allowed to distance students at 3 feet as opposed to 6. (Note: The change was anchored in part in results from a notable Massachusetts-based study .) The announcement was welcome news, and it would likely give schools like NCS the ability to bring increased numbers of students back for in-person learning.
At this point, however, New York State has not yet given local Departments of Health (DOH) the ability to authorize modifications to guidelines that are currently in place.
Over the weekend, you will likely see news stories making predictions about what changes ...

March 15 Q & A for NCS Parents
Dear NCS Families,
Over the past few weeks, the reopening of school has received a great deal of national as well as local attention. However, because things can vary greatly from one region to the next, I wanted to pass along a handful of updates related specifically to NCS. I have tried to capture answers to questions we have recently received below, and I would encourage you to reach out with an email or a phone call if you would like to talk in more detail.
Will my son or daughter have to quarantine if we travel over Spring Break?
No. Last week, Governor Cuomo announced that beginning on April 1, travelers would no longer be required to quarantine and test after entering New York State. This was understandably welcome news for many who are eager to visit family or enjoy ...

As soon as we learned of the situation, we immediately began the contact tracing process using interviews and our camera system. Ultimately, the decision was made to quarantine 1 additional student as a precautionary measure.
As we move further into March, I want to emphasize that our safety protocols are helping to keep our school community safe. In the days and weeks ahead, I would encourage everyone to continue masking, distancing, practicing good hand hygiene, and contacting a medical professional ...

Earlier today, Ontario and Steuben Counties confirmed that 4 students and 1 staff member in our High School had tested positive for COVID-19. Each of the students attended school at least one day this week, while the staff member was last at work on Friday, February 12.
After completing the contact tracing process, the decision was made to quarantine 9 additional students and 1 staff member. Additionally, we initiated a 48-hour “pause” on Boys Varsity Basketball as a precautionary measure. At this point, we anticipate that the season will resume on Saturday, February 27, when our Big Green athletes travel to Midlakes.
I know that receiving communications like this can be unsettling. However, I want to assure you that after thoroughly ...

NCS Closed Due to Snow
NCS Family,
Because of the continued snow and wind, we are going to be closed today (Wednesday, February 3, 2021). I know it looks like it might stop snowing later this morning, but because of our hills, geographic size, and commuters, I want to err on the side of caution.
Be safe and look forward to connecting soon.

Basketball to Resume on February 1
Dear High School Parents,
On Friday afternoon, New York State shared that “high risk” winter sports could resume on Monday, February 1. Although we are still working with our local Department of Health as well as regional athletic directors to identify consistent safety guidelines, we believe our boys and girls basketball athletes will be able to compete in shortened seasons over the coming weeks.
However, because of the quick planning timeline, we need your help. Before 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, we are asking High School parents to:
- Sign their son or daughter up for basketball using Family ID ( click here ) if they have not done so already. We need final participation numbers as soon as possible so that we can finalize what levels can be offered. ...

COVID Case at NCS
Dear NCS Families, Faculty, and Staff,
Earlier today, we were notified by the Ontario County Department of Health that one High School student and one student attending a program in another district tested positive for COVID-19. However, because neither of them attended classes at NCS or participated in any athletic or extracurricular activities during their infectious periods, we will continue with our normal school schedule and operations at this point in time.
Additionally, I also wanted to share that a “COVID-19 Tracker” ( click here ) has been posted to the homepage of our website under the “News & Updates” section. Each time we learn of a positive case involving students or staff members, the webpage will be updated immediately. However, beginning ...

COVID Case at NCS
Dear NCS Families, Faculty, and Staff,
Earlier today, the Naples Central School District was notified that a student in the Elementary School had tested positive for COVID-19. The student was last in school on Wednesday, January 13, and the individual is currently in isolation in alignment with Department of Health (DOH) guidelines.
After examining staff interviews, class rosters, and seating charts, we believe the DOH will be placing 6 students and 2 staff members in quarantine as a preventative measure. Additionally, to err on the side of caution, we will be transitioning the classroom cohort (not the grade level) to remote learning until Monday, January 25. All students impacted by the situation will be receiving a personal phone call from NCS with additional information. However, ...

COVID Case at NCS
Dear NCS Families, Faculty, and Staff,
Earlier today, the Naples Central School District was notified by the Ontario County Department of Health (DOH) that a staff member working in the High School had tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member was last at work on Friday, January 8, and the individual is currently in isolation in alignment with DOH guidelines.
After completing the contact tracing process, the DOH made the decision to quarantine four additional staff members working in the High School out of an abundance of caution.
Finally, as rates continue to rise in our community, I want to try to find a balance between under and over-communicating information on COVID-19 cases. Beginning next week, we will have a spot on the website that will be updated as soon as we ...

Positive COVID Case
Dear NCS Families, Faculty, and Staff:
Earlier today, the Naples Central School District was notified by the Ontario County Department of Health (DOH) that a High School student had tested positive for COVID-19. However, the individual is a remote learner, and they have not been in classrooms or participated in any athletic or extracurricular activities during the 2020/2021 school year. Because of this, we will continue with our normal school schedule and operations at this point in time.
Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
