NCS Seeking Input on Memorial Trees NCS Seeking Input on Memorial Trees This past year, the Naples school community approved a capital project to construct a new bus loop in front of the Elementary School. Because the wellbeing of students is always at the forefront of decision-making, a special focus was placed on designing a much safer pick-up and drop-off area. However, although the architects did their very best to honor the existing bus loop footprint,  it quickly became apparent that it was simply not possible to make the area safer without removing several trees in order to modify the design of the space. While the trees have helped the school property to shine aesthetically, some of them have also served as memorials to special NCS students and staff members who have passed away over the years. Because NCS recognizes the significance of the situation, ...
Weather Related School Cancellations and Closings Weather Related School Cancellations and Closings Closing school is one of the most difficult decisions districts have to make. While we want our students in school and ready to learn each day, the reality is that we live in upstate New York and the weather can change very quickly. With the winter months comes an increased focus on student safety, and there are days when we must cancel after school activities or even close school because of unsafe road conditions. Please know that these decisions are made very carefully, and only after consulting weather resources, local highway superintendents, our transportation supervisor, and area school administrators. In the event of a closing or a cancellation, the District will send out a Connect-Ed Parent Notification on our phone system, and we will post information on the school homepage. ...

Naples CSD Placed on College Board's AP Honor Roll Naples CSD Placed on College Board's AP Honor Roll Dear NCS School Community:  I wanted to let you know that this past week we found out that NCS was recognized as one of twenty-six schools in New York State to be placed on the College Board's AP Honor Roll. The designation highlights "school districts committed to increasing access to AP for underrepresented students while simultaneously maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher," and it is a real credit to the hard work of everyone at NCS.               However, I would like to take a quick minute to thank Mr. Clark, Mr. Freivald, Mr. Mannella, Mr. Petrie, Mr. Robison, Mrs. Weller, and Ms. Wolfe for teaching the AP courses offered at NCS. The classes are incredibly ...
Parent/Guardian Update Regarding Transportation Parent/Guardian Update Regarding Transportation Dear NCS Parents/Guardians: We are blessed to have a Transportation Department here in Naples that is filled with dedicated and caring bus drivers. However, in recent weeks there have been days when illness and transition have forced us to find creative ways of transporting students safely to and from school, field trips, and athletic competitions. While our Director of Transportation and our NCS Mechanics have been helping out by driving each day, on a handful of occasions we have had to combine runs which has resulted in some of our students arriving home later than expected. Although we anticipate having a full staff in our Transportation Department in the very near future, there may be additional days when we have to combine a run or two. If this happens, we will do our very ...
Supporting Students During the Holiday Season Supporting Students During the Holiday Season Dear Naples School Community: As we turn our calendars from November to December, we are reminded that the coming weeks bring with them special opportunities for joy and celebration. However, we also know that the holiday season is rarely stress-free. Changes in routine, a dizzying array of demands, and unrealistic expectations can often lead to increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Although these tensions can be difficult for anyone, they are especially challenging for young people already struggling with issues related to mental health. While students in crisis can oftentimes feel an overwhelming sense of loneliness and isolation, research suggests that they are not alone. At the New York State School Boards Association Annual Convention in October, several Naples ...

Statement from NCS Regarding School Taxes Statement from NCS Regarding School Taxes Dear Members of the Naples School Community: As you may know, earlier today a resident of our school district, Mr. Tom Golisano, issued a public news release outlining why he would be holding back his tax payment this fall. The Naples Central School District fully appreciates Mr. Golisano’s concern, and is hopeful that he and the Town of South Bristol can find a remedy to the situation. However, we also know that public education offers students across the country the skills and opportunities they need in order to become thoughtful and productive citizens in their local communities. We deeply appreciate the financial support that all taxpayers provide in our school district, and we know that we would not be able to meet the unique learning needs of each child without their ...
