New Faces in Naples: Mrs. Welch New Faces in Naples: Mrs. Welch Dear Naples School Community:   After extensively studying student performance, the researcher and policy expert Eric Hanushek found that “the difference between being taught by a highly capable and a less than capable teacher can translate into a full grade level of achievement in a single school year.” Fortunately for us, the Naples Central School District has always been home to an incredible group of educators. As we prepare for the start of the 2019-2020 school year, I wanted to introduce many of the new faces you will see in our buildings by passing along information through our website and social media accounts. We are thrilled that Mrs. Margaret Welch will be joining our school family, and I would invite you to help us welcome her to Naples this fall. Hope ...

While it is our understanding that the information has not been misused in any way, we wanted to make you aware of the incident. In addition, we also wanted to assure you that we take the issue of data privacy and security very seriously in Naples. NCS Proud to Offer Safe School Helpline NCS Proud to Offer Safe School Helpline Dear Parents and Guardians: At NCS, we are committed to doing all we can to ensure that our school remains a safe and welcoming space for students. Because safety is ultimately our collective responsibiilty as a school family, we talk with our students about the need to say something if they notice anything that appears to be troubling.  However, we all know that there can be times when a student or a parent may want to provide information to someone at school, but hesitate because they do not want to make their identity known. To encourage open and confidential communication with our District, NCS recently made the decision to partner with Safe School Helpline ® . The organization offers a unique, automated telephone service that allows callers the ability to report ...

Happy New Year from NCS Happy New Year from NCS Dear NCS Parents and Guardians: As we age, most of us experience the feeling that time seems to move by faster and faster each year. When asked to explain this phenomenon, psychologists have pointed out that when we are young, we regularly experience first-time events that tend to leave lasting impressions. With the passage of time, however, familiar happenings require less mental energy to process, and the years often appear to pass by more quickly the older we get. While this sensation might be slightly disconcerting for many of us, it is also an important reminder that the coming year will be filled with many “firsts” for our students here at NCS. First days of school, and first athletic competitions. First school dances, and first experiences playing musical instruments. ...
Message Regarding Social Media Safety Message Regarding Social Media Safety Dear NCS Parents and Guardians: We recently learned that several students in surrounding school districts had been victimized by an online predator. This person(s) created numerous social media accounts, friended students, and proceeded to obtain very personal and private images and information about the individuals. The predator is now using this information to “blackmail” the students to provide additional pictures and information with the threat of sharing what has already been provided on social media sites and other public entities. After speaking with the school superintendents of these local districts, it is my understanding that law enforcement has been involved and is investigating all leads. Because we want our students to be safe and to thrive in a world filled ...

Weather Related School Cancellations and Closings Weather Related School Cancellations and Closings Closing school is one of the most difficult decisions districts have to make. While we want our students in school and ready to learn each day, the reality is that we live in upstate New York and the weather can change very quickly. With the winter months comes an increased focus on student safety, and there are days when we must cancel after school activities or even close school because of unsafe road conditions. Please know that these decisions are made very carefully, and only after consulting weather resources, local highway superintendents, our transportation supervisor, and area school administrators. In the event of a closing or a cancellation, the District will send out a Connect-Ed Parent Notification on our phone system, and we will post information on the school homepage. ...
Operation Santa Accepting Donations Operation Santa Accepting Donations Over 70 years ago, Pauline McKenna, a school nurse, and Pauline Moscato, an elementary school teacher, decided to provide for children in the community who were not able to have bright and happy holiday seasons. Their selfless actions began a Naples tradition that has continued ever since. Last year, through the generous contributions of area businesses and residents, more than 60 families received clothing, books, toys and food coupons, and over 50 senior citizens were remembered with fruit baskets. I am honored to once again be this year’s chairperson of Operation Santa.  A student committee of 10 th – 12 th grade students has already begun working.   We would like to ask you to consider donating to Operation Santa this year.   Every dollar ...
