Message from NCS Regarding Student Gender Identity

Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:

Over the past few days, I have had a handful of parents reach out to me with questions about transgender or gender nonconforming students at NCS using restrooms as well as locker rooms that match their gender identities. I wanted to take a minute to pass along guidance from the State Education Department regarding the topic as well as our local policy here in Naples.

Reminder to Schools

NCS Policy on Student Gender Identity (#7554)

Because our school community is committed to ensuring that all students have a safe and supportive environment in which to learn, transgender or gender nonconforming students can use the restrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their consistently expressed gender identities. However, if any student would prefer a more private space, they are free to use the gender-neutral classroom bathrooms in the Elementary School or the restroom located in the High School atrium area.

While this policy is compliant with guidance from the State Education Department, more importantly, it is aligned with our values here at NCS. Thank you for treating each one of our 700 students with care and dignity, and for making sure that Naples continues to be a place known for kindness and understanding.

As always, please do not hesitate to call (585-374-7901) or email (mfrahm@naplescsd.org) with any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Matt Frahm
