New Faces in Naples!

Dear Naples School Community:

There is a saying that "the quality of an education system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers." For generations, Naples has been blessed with a world-class faculty and staff, and that tradition continues as we welcome a new group of dynamic educators to NCS.

As we prepare for the start of the 2017-2018 school year, I wanted to introduce many of the new faces you will see in our buildings by passing along information through our website and social media accounts. We are thrilled that Ms. Kara Houppert will be joining our school family, and I would invite you to help us welcome her to Naples this fall.

Hope to see you soon.

Matt Frahm, Superintendent

Name: Ms. Kara Houppert

Subject Area: 5th Grade Classroom Teacher

Why did you decide to apply/accept the job in the Naples Central School District?

I applied to Naples after interviewing with Kristina Saucke and Elizabeth Ashton at the Teacher Recruitment Fair in Brockport, NY. That was by far my favorite and most memorable interview of the day. Both Kristina and Elizabeth were so personable and easy to talk to. As soon as I drove into Naples and completed my first interview, I knew this was the place for me. During the interview process I felt comfortable and could be my complete self. I felt an immediate connection with the staff and knew I could not pass up the opportunity to be a part of such a close-knit community. I am looking forward to being a part of this amazing team!

What do you like the most about your job?

The best part about my job so far has to be the staff. Everyone I have come in contact with, whether they are other teachers, administrators, therapy dogs, or facilities have been nothing but helpful in my transition into my first year of teaching. Everyone has provided me with resources and ideas that will only help me be successful. I feel so blessed to be a part of this staff!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I enjoy being outside. I love exercising, hiking, camping, attending concerts, hanging by the lake with my friends and family, and traveling to fun and unique places!

What types of books/magazines would we see on your bookshelf?

I have a wide range of books on my bookshelf. I read anywhere from young adult literature to autobiographies of my icons. I make it a goal to read at least one book a month. This summer I have been reading books that will be seen in my classroom library, such as Wonder by R.J. Palacio.  I want to be familiar with the popular 5th grade texts so I can help my students find a book that fits them best.

What is your favorite quote?

"Leadership is communicating others' worth and potential so clearly that they are inspired to see it in themselves." -Stephen Covey

What is your favorite food?

Growing up in Rochester, NY I think it is only appropriate that my favorite food is a Garbage Plate!

Tell us a little about your family.

My family consists of my mother Lori, father Greg, older brother Mark, and two loving golden retrievers, Laker and Monte. My brother Mark is my best friend and inspiration. At the age of 3 he was diagnosed with Early Onset Parkinson's Disease, causing both physical and cognitive delays. It is because of Mark I am where I am today. He has been such a positive role model in shaping who I am as an athlete, educator, and overall person.

If you were to leave a legacy here in Naples-what would it be?

If I were to leave Naples I would want my legacy to be that I was a positive role model to everyone I came in contact with. I want my colleagues to remember me for my team attitude and my students to remember me for my passion in helping them grow as a person. In regards to athletics, I want to be seen as the Coach who made a change in the program dynamics. I want to see the girls basketball program grow in both numbers and support. I am looking forward to watching my players grow from not just athletes, but also into mentors, volunteers, and positive role models in the Naples community.
