Community Update - May 12, 2023

NCS Families-
I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying the exceptional spring weather that is finally upon us.  It is hard to believe that in just six weeks, we will be concluding the 22-23 school year at NCS.

This past week, we celebrated Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week.  As we all know, it is the people that make NCS such a wonderful place to work, and this includes our students, families, and of course our staff members.  Now more than ever, schools across our state and nation face challenges when it comes to recruiting and retaining excellent staff members.  While we face similar challenges at NCS, this is also a place where folks like to work; our recent recognition as a Democrat and Chronicle 2023 Top Workplace affirms that.  Please join me in expressing sincerest thanks to all of those teachers and staff members who go above and beyond each day on behalf of our students; it is these efforts that allow our students to succeed, both during their time at NCS and in future endeavors of interest.

Last weekend, many of our High School students attended the NCS Prom at Bristol Mountain.  Kudos to the work our staff and students put in to make this an enjoyable event for all.  Soon our spring sports teams will enter into sectional competition; best of luck to all teams as they finish league play over the next few weeks.  Looking forward our students and families will have the opportunity to partake in additional year end events including:
  • May 19th & 20th- Senior Trip to Cedar Point
  • Spring Band & Art Show 7:00 PM HS Auditorium
  • June 5th- Academic Achievement Awards 6:00 PM High School Cafeteria
  • June 6th- Elementary Art Show (5:30 PM) and Spring Concert (6:30 PM) NES Gym
  • June 7th- Spring Chorus Concert & Art Show HS Auditorium
  • June 13th- Senior Breakfast (8:00 AM) & Graduate Parade through NES
  • June 15th- Senior Banquet 6:00 PM HS Cafeteria
  • June 24th- NCS Graduation 11:00 AM High School Front Lawn
In regard to our capital project, we received word from NYS this week that our project plans have been approved.  As such, NCS will be beginning the bid process within the next few weeks.  As has been shared previously, we remain on track with our timeline for the project with initial work beginning this summer and continuing over the next 15 months.

Lastly, I wanted to remind the NCS community that the annual school budget/board member vote will take place on Tuesday, May 16th from 7:00 AM through 8:00 PM at the Naples High School Library.  Your participation in this process is greatly appreciated.  Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing many of you at events over the next few weeks.

Sincerely,

Kevin Swartz
NCS Superintendent
