COVID Case at NCS

Dear NCS Families and Staff:

Yesterday evening, we were notified that one of our middle level students in the High School had tested positive for COVID-19. The student was last in school on Monday, November 16, and the student is currently in isolation in alignment with Department of Health guidelines.

As soon as we learned of the situation, we immediately began the contact tracing process in partnership with the Department of Health. Using our camera system, interviews with staff, attendance lists, and seating charts, we were able to determine where the student had been, who they had interacted with, and the duration of their interactions. Based on our findings, I wanted to share the following:

7th and 8th Grade Students Will Learn Remotely on Monday and Tuesday:

We believe that a small number of middle level students will need to quarantine. To give the Department of Health additional time to contact trace and notify families, our 7th and 8th grade students will all be learning remotely on Monday and Tuesday this week (November 23 and 24). They should use the attendance Zoom link first thing tomorrow morning like they usually would on remote days, and engage in virtual learning like they would when learning from home. I want to emphasize that the decision is precautionary in nature, and that if families do not receive a phone call from the Department of Health, there is nothing that they need to do.

All Other Students Will Follow their Planned Learning Schedules on Monday and Tuesday:

Students in grades UPK-6 as well as in grades 9-12 will follow their normal school schedules this week. When engaging in the contact tracing process, we could not have been more impressed with how diligently students and staff members have been implementing our health guidelines, and we are confident that NCS continues to be a safe space for students to learn. Our goal continues to be staying open for in-person instruction, and I would encourage you to continue prioritizing masking, distancing, hand hygiene, and disinfecting in the days and weeks ahead.

As always, please do not hesitate to call or email (585-374-7901, mfrahm@naplescsd.org) if you have any questions or concerns. While privacy guidelines will understandably prevent me from sharing identifying information, I would be happy to talk about any of the practices we have put in place throughout the reopening process.

Sincerely,

Matt Frahm
Superintendent of Schools
