July 9 Update

Dear NCS Family:

As you may be aware, yesterday Governor Cuomo announced that he would be providing school districts with specific guidance related to reopening on July 13, and requiring them to submit specific plans by July 31. Additionally, he indicated that a final decision would be made during the first week in August as to whether schools would be able to open for in person instruction in September.

Like all schools in our region, we have spent time in recent weeks reviewing reopening documents from other states as well as a variety of professional organizations. Although the information has been incomplete, it has helped us begin to brainstorm potential needs for instructional models involving:
  • Remote Learning
  • In Person Learning
  • Hybrid Learning (Mix of Remote and In Person)
Because of regional differences and infection trends, however, it is possible that directives may differ from one part of New York State to another. As a result, we will need to wait a bit longer for specific guidance from the Governor’s Office and the State Education Department before finalizing any plans.

In the weeks ahead, please know that we will find ways of involving parents in the planning process, and that we will communicate on a regular basis as we learn more.  Whatever the guidance, we will be ready for learning in September, and together we will work to ensure that our reopening plans prioritize safety, connection, and dynamic learning experiences.

Be well and look forward to talking soon.

Matt
