May 22 Update

Dear NCS Family:

As we prepare to begin Memorial Day Weekend, I wanted to pass along a number of updates involving the last day of the year, summer school, meals on Monday, and the annual budget vote.

Last Day of the School Year

After reviewing our school calendar as well as the most recent guidance from New York State, the last day of the school year will be Tuesday, June 16 for NCS students. Our Board of Education will be amending the school calendar to reflect the changes, and we do not anticipate any additional modifications unless there is updated information from the Governor or the State Education Department.

Summer School

On Thursday, Governor Cuomo announced that all in-person summer school experiences would be cancelled this year. However, for NCS High School students needing credit recovery, we will be partnering with the Prattsburgh Central School District to provide distance learning options in July and August. Additionally, to help some of our youngest students retain the skills they developed during the school year, we will be putting together summer learning activities focused on individual or small group interventions. The program will take the place of our usual Elementary School Summer Academy, and Ms. Saucke will be finalizing the details in the days ahead. Unfortunately, however, because of the recent summer school announcement, we will not be offering driver education this year. We know that this is a critical opportunity for many of our students, and hope that we can offer it again in the very near future.

Meals on Monday

Although Monday is a federal holiday, we will still be dropping off breakfast and lunch packages to families at our usual times. As a special Memorial Day treat, I believe Mrs. Kingston (NCS Food Service Director) has come up with a plan to make ice cream snacks a part of our morning deliveries!

Annual Budget Vote

Rather than in-person voting on the NCS proposed budget and board elections this spring, eligible voters will be mailed ballots with prepaid return envelopes. The ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, and we would ask that you contact Pam Claes (585-374-7994 or pclaes@naplescsd.org) if you have any questions.

Like all of you, this weekend won’t seem complete without the Naples Memorial Day Parade and watching our Marching Band perform on Main Street. However, it is an opportunity to enjoy time with friends and family, and most importantly, honor the memory of those who gave their lives while serving in the U.S. military.

Hoping this finds you safe, healthy, and well.
