3rd Marking Period Update

Dear NCS Parents and Guardians:

As you know, Friday, April 3, originally marked the end of the 3rd Quarter here in Naples High School. However, because of all the uncertainty related to the closure, we have spent time developing a revised plan for assessing student progress this spring. Instead of receiving traditional report cards with grades ranging from 0-100, we will be communicating student growth using this rubric (click here) for the 3rd Quarter. In addition, to provide students with a bit of extra time to complete recent assignments, we have extended the final date of the marking period until Monday, April 13.

While we recognize that this is not a perfect instrument for measuring student learning, we also believe that it is our best option for assessing learning outcomes, prioritizing flexibility, and providing feedback at this point in time.

Finally, during this period of uncertainty, we would ask that you continue to provide the support your child needs to experience success when engaging in online or home-based instruction. Please know that we stand willing to reconsider progress scores that might not align with levels of mastery, and that we will make decisions that are in the best interest of our students. However, at the end of the day, it is really important that students keep focused on demonstrating that they have mastered the learning outcomes the State Education Department has identified as essential.

As always, we can’t thank you enough for your partnership and support. If you have any questions or concerns in the days ahead, please do not hesitate to call or email.

My best,

Matt Frahm, Superintendent
