NCS Announces Extended Closure

March 15, 2020

Dear Naples Family:

Although there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario County, we have been advised that temporarily closing schools would be the best course of action to help keep our community safe and healthy during this challenging time.

After speaking with all Ontario County School Superintendents as well as with key public officials earlier today, the Naples Central School District will be holding a Staff Conference Day (closed for students) on Monday, March 16, to prepare student learning materials for an extended school closure. On Tuesday, March 17, we will have a 1/2 School Day from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. to give students a chance to collect their personal belongings, digital devices (if applicable), and learning materials. After that, the Naples Central School District will be closed from Wednesday, March 18, through its originally scheduled Spring Break. Additionally, all athletics, extracurricular activities, and outside organization facility use will be suspended during that same period.

Please know that this decision is breaking our hearts. Not only does closing school present hardships for our families, but it also means cancelling or postponing certain events that are special to us all. However, the wellbeing of our students is more important than anything, and we sincerely appreciate all the cooperation and support we have received during this unsettling time.

In the days ahead, I will be reaching out with additional information regarding meals for students in need, updates on the closure, and extra supports we might be able to offer. However, as always, please do not hesitate to call (585-374-7901) or email (mfrahm@naplescsd.org) me directly if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Matt Frahm, Superintendent
