New Faces in Naples: Mrs. Cassie Montemarano

Dear Naples School Community:

After extensively studying student performance, the researcher and policy expert Eric Hanushek found that “the difference between being taught by a highly capable and a less than capable teacher can translate into a full grade level of achievement in a single school year.” Fortunately for us, the Naples Central School District has always been home to an incredible group of educators.

As we prepare for the start of the 2019-2020 school year, I wanted to introduce many of the new faces you will see in our buildings by passing along information through our website and social media accounts. We are thrilled that Mrs. Cassie Montemarano will be joining our school family, and I would invite you to help us welcome her to Naples this fall.

Hope to see you soon.

Matt Frahm, Superintendent

Name: Mrs. Cassie Montemarano

Subject Area: Elementary School Reading Teacher

Why did you decide to apply/accept the job in the Naples Central School District?

I applied and accepted the position of reading teacher in the Naples Central School District because the district’s mission aligns with my beliefs about what students deserve in education.  I have a strong background knowledge of the NYS Next Generation Standards and how that connects to student success.  I am excited to be a part of a district in which academic excellence is celebrated and valued.

What do you like the most about your job?

There are so many things I love about teaching.  First and foremost, I love working with children and collaborating with colleagues.  I also love the opportunities the education field allows for professional growth and development.  I also find it exciting that each day is new and different.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family (my husband Steve, daughter Katie, and dog Buddy).  We enjoy camping, walking/hiking, and taking family vacations to the beach.  I also enjoy reading any spare minute I have.  It is important for me to find time to exercise as well- I enjoy walking/jogging and swimming laps.

What types of books/magazines would we see on your bookshelf?

I am a wide reader and enjoy multiple genres from historical fiction, mysteries, to nonfiction books that help me learn and grow as an educator.  I also love cookbooks and magazines to find new dishes to try out in the kitchen.

What is your favorite quote?

I love quotes! It’s hard to pick just one.  My current favorite quote is:

If we create a culture where every teacher believes they need to improve, not because they aren’t good enough but because they could be even better, there is no limit to what we can achieve.

Dylan William

This quote reminds me to keep reflecting upon my practice for continuous improvement.

What is your favorite food?

I love Margherita Pizza and chicken wings!

Tell us a little about your family.

My husband, Steve and daughter Katie live with our dog in Lima, NY.  We have been married for fifteen years!  Steve is a district administrator at Livonia Central School. My daughter Katie will turn eleven this fall and is entering her first year of middle school at Honeoye-Falls Lima Central School.  Our dog Buddy turned one in May and keeps us very busy!

If you were to leave a legacy here in Naples-what would it be?

George Couros once wrote, “Your legacy as an educator is determined by what your students do.”  I hope that I empower my students to become lifelong readers and writers that use critical thinking skills to make our world a better place.

Any additional information you would like to share:

I am thrilled to become part of the Naples Central School family.
