New Faces in Naples: Ms. Ellen Ellison

Dear Naples School Community:

After extensively studying student performance, the researcher and policy expert Eric Hanushek found that “the difference between being taught by a highly capable and a less than capable teacher can translate into a full grade level of achievement in a single school year.” Fortunately for us, the Naples Central School District has always been home to an incredible group of educators.

As we prepare for the start of the 2019-2020 school year, I wanted to introduce many of the new faces you will see in our buildings by passing along information through our website and social media accounts. We are thrilled that Ms. Ellen Ellison will be joining our school family, and I would invite you to help us welcome her to Naples this fall.

Hope to see you soon.

Matt Frahm, Superintendent

Name: Ms. Ellen Ellison

Subject Area: Secondary Science

Why did you decide to apply/accept the job in the Naples Central School District?

I decided to apply because of proximity to nature and the small community; I decided to accept the job when I met members of the incredible, talented, innovative school community.

What do you like the most about your job?

I am so excited to work in a small community where we can investigate relevant science together. I want to spread my love of the natural world by helping students answer their questions about life!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I'm an outdoor nut. I love rock and ice climbing, hiking, biking, paddling, and trail running. Outside of school you're most likely to run into me on the beautiful trails in the area.

What types of books/magazines would we see on your bookshelf?

Rock and Ice magazine, obviously. But I also LOVE YA fiction with diverse main characters. My favorite genre is post-apocalyptic fiction, but if you have any recommendations please share!

What is your favorite quote?

"Anything's possible if you've got enough nerve!"

What is your favorite food?

I can't choose just one! Lately I've been indulging with horseradish cheddar cheese and crackers though.

Tell us a little about your family.

The biggest news in my family is that one of my younger brothers (I'm the oldest with two younger brothers) just got engaged and he and his fiancé adopted a puppy! The whole family is excited for the wedding, but even more excited about the new yellow lab, Bodie!

If you were to leave a legacy here in Naples-what would it be?

I want to be the best teacher ever!! Really though, I want to inspire curiosity. I have a ton of questions, but if I do anything as a teacher, I want to help students find their own questions and provide the tools to help answer them.

Any additional information you would like to share:

I'm always looking for new places to explore. If you know of any secret or adventurous trails come see me in Room 100!
