Update on Pearson Data Breach

Dear NCS Parents and Staff:

As you may already be aware, Pearson PLC recently notified customers of a data breach involving AIMSweb 1.0—its popular software tool used to assess the reading and math skills of students in grades UPK-12. Yesterday, we learned that the security incident had exposed the first names, last names, and in some instances, the dates of birth connected with certain students and staff members at NCS.

While it is our understanding that the information has not been misused in any way, we wanted to make you aware of the incident. In addition, we also wanted to assure you that we take the issue of data privacy and security very seriously in Naples. Our team has extensive training in protecting sensitive student and staff information, and our systems have many controls in place to ensure that your child’s educational records remain confidential.

We will be mailing a letter home to the parents of those impacted by the breach early next week, and the communication will include additional information on how to secure free monitoring services through Pearson PLC for students if families desire.

If you have any questions about the data breach, please do not hesitate to call (585-374-7901) or email (mfrahm@naplescsd.org).

Sincerely,

Matt Frahm, Superintendent
