Parent/Guardian Update Regarding Transportation

Dear NCS Parents/Guardians:

We are blessed to have a Transportation Department here in Naples that is filled with dedicated and caring bus drivers. However, in recent weeks there have been days when illness and transition have forced us to find creative ways of transporting students safely to and from school, field trips, and athletic competitions. While our Director of Transportation and our NCS Mechanics have been helping out by driving each day, on a handful of occasions we have had to combine runs which has resulted in some of our students arriving home later than expected.

Although we anticipate having a full staff in our Transportation Department in the very near future, there may be additional days when we have to combine a run or two. If this happens, we will do our very best to have someone call or email the parents/guardians of the students who will be significantly impacted by altered pick-up or drop-off times. In addition, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the transportation of your son or daughter, please do not hesitate to contact one of the following:
  • NCS Transportation Department: 585-374-7945
  • NCS Elementary School Main Office: 585-374-7952
  • NCS High School Main Office: 585-374-7905
While we know that modifications to bus runs can be frustrating for students, staff, and parents/guardians, we also know that our situation is not unique.  A recent study by School Bus Fleet Magazine shows that, “the country has a shortage of school-bus drivers” that many transportation contractors characterize as “severe,” and it goes on to describe how many districts have been forced “to cut school-bus routes or consolidate them, having fewer stops.” With this in mind, we have been looking at new ways of communicating vacancies in our Transportation Department, and we stand willing to train any qualified individuals who might be interested in serving as a driver or a substitute driver here at NCS.

As always, thank you for your support and continued partnership. We never forget how lucky we are to live and work in such a special community, and we stand willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that each one of our students has an enjoyable school experience.

Warmly,

Matt Frahm, Superintendent
