May 13 Update

Dear NCS Family:

As we move further into May, I wanted to take a minute to pass along a handful of updates. However, because New York State’s plan for reopening will be a fluid process, there are a number of questions we will not be able to answer definitively until a bit later on this spring.

Memorial Day and the End of the 2020 School Year:

Similar to our plans for Spring Break, we will continue providing students with remote learning experiences on Friday, May 22. However, because Memorial Day is a Federal Holiday, there will be no scheduled instructional activities on Monday, May 25. Additionally, because we did not have a Spring Break, we believe the end of the school year might be earlier than was previously indicated on our calendar. While we estimate that the year will come to a close during the week of June 15-19, we will be communicating a final date as soon as we receive more specific guidance from the State.

Locker Clean-Out and School Device/Textbook Collection:

In recent days, we have begun putting together a tentative plan for locker clean-outs and handing in school devices, textbooks, etc. Because students will continue to need their remote learning materials in the weeks ahead, we anticipate using the week of June 15-19 as a time for closing up the 2019-2020 school year. However, because of evolving guidelines related to reopening, we will wait until the beginning of June to communicate a specific plan that is both safe as well as organized.

Census:

Every ten years, the federal government counts everyone living in the United States by administering the Census. Although it might be strange to see a Census reminder coming from school, the numbers are used to ensure that our region receives its fair share of resources in the years to come. If you have not done so already, I would ask that you take a few minutes to visit www.census.gov or call 844-330-2020 to make sure that you are counted in 2020.

Senior Celebrations and Graduation:

Although each season comes with its own set of special events, spring is a time when we pause to honor the accomplishments of our seniors. While the special moments look a bit different this year, I wanted to thank our Athletic Booster Club, our Parent Teacher Partnership, Naples Youth Baseball and Softball, as well as our staff for finding new ways to honor the Class of 2020. We still have a few ideas that we are working on, but I wanted to encourage you to let a senior know how much they mean to you in the weeks to come.

Most importantly, I wanted to let you know that we have begun putting together tentative plans for graduation. Due to restrictions involving mass gatherings, however, we are unable to say for sure what the ceremony will look like on June 27. Mrs. Green will be holding Zoom conversations with seniors and parents this week, and we will be using the information she collects to put together potential scenarios involving a traditional graduation, a more restricted ceremony for immediate family, or a virtual event.
As always, please know that your trust and support means the world to us at NCS. If we can help with anything this spring, please don’t hesitate to call, email, or send us a message on social media when you have time.

Warmly,

Matt
