NCS Running Club

NCS Student Running Club

The Naples Central School District Wellness Committee would like to start a student running club for young adults in Naples. Running is a fun activity that makes you feel good and is enjoyable to do alone or with friends! We live in a community that embraces running. There is a community group, Naples Running Group, that exists for adult runners. Each year many community members participate in the St. J’s 5K. Many NCS students run this event by training on their own. We would like to provide students with an opportunity to run through an organized, facilitated and chaperoned club. Club activities would involve chaperoned cross country runs in and around Naples three times a week, including short (maintenance runs) on Tuesdays and Thursdays (2:35-3:20) and longer progressive runs on Saturday mornings. There would be at least two NCS staff members on scheduled runs to account for students of varying ages and athletic abilities. The season would begin in mid-March. For those students who are already athletes, it offers a great cross training opportunity.  For those students who are not current athletes, it would introduce them to an individualized sport that has tremendous capacity to elevate health, fitness and self esteem in a highly enjoyable way. While challenging oneself, a student would still be part of a group activity through this club and connected to the school and community. Our main goal would be to get students ready to run the Naples St. Js 5k with the option to run another 5k or even 10k race locally in May or June. We look forward to moving forward with this new club.
