Maintaining Our School Facilities

Dear Members of the Naples School Community:

Our school facilities serve as a source of pride as well as a significant investment by our local community. In order to protect our investment and make sure that our students have safe and appropriate learning spaces, every five years we conduct something called a Building Condition Survey (BCS). The BCS examines all aspects of district facilities, including structural components, building systems such as heating, cooling and electrical, and outdoor areas such as parking lots, sidewalks and playing fields. Upon completion of the BCS, the collected data is submitted to the State Education Department and is used to help guide long-term capital plans.

In recent months, NCS has partnered with SEI Design Group in order to complete our required BCS. After examining our facilities from top to bottom, SEI Design Group shared its findings with our Board of Education Facilities Committee. Once a line-by-line analysis of the BCS was completed, our Facilities Committee recommended that the District:
1)     Continue funding the capital reserve it has established for the Transportation Department

  1. Gather detailed information regarding the status and needs of the bus garage

  1. Begin exploring different options for addressing the deficiencies that exist in the bus garage

  1. Consider options involving the bus loop and secure main entrance in the Elementary School

With these recommendations in mind, the Board of Education is carefully examining different possibilities for addressing some of our District’s capital needs. Throughout the process, we will commit to communicating progress on a regular basis, we will involve the community through tours and public meetings, and we will look to make decisions that are fiscally responsible for our taxpayers.

As always, thank you for supporting quality public education here in Naples. Please know that we welcome any feedback you might be willing to provide, and that we invite you to call (585-374-7901) or email (mfrahm@naplescsd.org) if you have any questions we might be able to answer.

My best,
Matt
