Staff Appreciation Week

Dear NCS Families,

In the best of times, we know the work of educators is incredibly difficult. So much so that after more than 30 years in the classroom, one Stanford professor commented that teaching “is perhaps the most complex, most challenging, and most demanding, subtle, nuanced, and frightening activity that our species has ever invented—the only time a physician could possibly encounter a situation of comparable complexity would be in the emergency room of a hospital during or after a natural disaster.”

And that was before the COVID-19 pandemic.

As you well know, the past year has brought challenges never before experienced by educators. Through it all, our faculty and staff have gone above and beyond to master remote instruction, confront learning loss, and support students struggling with trauma, hunger, illness, and loneliness.

Because of required safety precautions, however, it has been difficult for parents to actually see the magic that happens in Naples each day. To help turn our walls from brick to glass, we have put together a 30-minute video with images, interviews, and videos from the past year. The artifact is meant to capture the lived experience of our school family, and also to honor the 170 faculty and staff members who call NCS home.

As schools across the country celebrate “Staff Appreciation Week,” I would encourage you to thank the teachers, aides, assistants, bus drivers, cooks, cleaners, and clerical staff members who have made a difference in the life of your child. We are all part of a special school family, and I hope you are proud of the educators who work with our kids—I know I am.

Hoping this finds you safe, healthy, and well.

Matt
